Q. WHAT DOES MINDY HAVE IN COMMON WITH JIM NABORS? A. They're both singing, "Back Home Again in Indiana." Many of you know that we have been planning to be in the US for the summer of 2004, while the Bible training center here is out of session. The intent has been for Mindy to go back a little earlier (about a month) and return a little later than Kevin to put in time as a medical assistant, thus helping us out financially. That was the old plan. The new plan is similar; we've just changed "a little earlier" to "quite a bit earlier." To be more specific, Mindy went back to the US late last week, and returned to work in Louisville, KY, earlier this week. Granted, spending three-and-a-half months apart is not the ideal situation, but it was brought about by a realistic look at our economic plight, and our desire to return to Mozambique in the fall of this year in a much more financially sound position. It isn't always easy to know whether to keep waiting or to take action. In this case, after a lot of waiting and praying for wisdom, we decided that the new plan appeared more advantageous than the old one (and there sure weren't any complaints from Mindy's family and friends when they heard she was on her way). No doubt this period will bring back memories of when we were dating, a good deal of which was spent with Kevin in Africa and Mindy in Indiana, and a lot of lovey-dovey mushiness (including a marriage proposal) was exchanged via AOL's Instant Messenger. There is still hopeful anticipation that the day will come in which the only mention of finances in our newsletters will be an address for donations buried in the bottom corner in almost microscopic print. TIME TO FIX OUR EYES ON OUR PUPILS At long last, a fresh batch of eager Bible students are arriving for the start of classes next week. These Mozambican preachers and church leaders will go through an in-depth, well-rounded study of God's word over the next several months. Kevin will be teaching New Testament Overview, Basic Bible Doctrines, The Church, and General Epistles (James; 1 and 2 Peter; 1, 2, and 3 John; and Jude). Other classes they'll be taking include Bible Study Methods, Old Testament Overview, Life of Christ, and Acts. It's an intense program with a lot of information in a short time, but the students know they're not here to pick daisies. More information about our program and our mission in general can be read in the coming April edition of Horizons magazine. Mozambique is the feature for that month, and some GNA members have submitted articles at their request. YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE READ THE FOLLOWING THREE OR FOUR TIMES Have we mentioned that we'll be in the US during the coming summer, and that we'd love to be your featured missionaries for VBS, church camp, or any other church gathering? We have a decent spate of commitments made since the last Mozam' Beacon, but there's room for plenty more. If you're interested, please send an e-mail to: thebecks@mail.com With thanks for you continued prayers and support, Kevin and Mindy |
